The Rev. Ruth Farrell, St. Peter’s lead pastor, was called in 2015. Before coming to Lake Zurich, Rev. Ruth pastored in United Church of Christ settings all over the country (including on the Big Island… ask her to sing the Doxology in Hawaiian!) for over a decade. Her favorite things about being a pastor are walking through life’s ups and downs with her congregants, helping people marry their faith and everyday lives, and developing meaningful spiritual growth opportunities for all ages.

Pastor Ruth is a native of Pennsylvania. She completed her M.Div. in 2006. Her B.A. in English and Music help her craft creative, custom worship services. She has served as the chair of Church and Ministry committees in two United Church of Christ Associations as well as serving on an Association Church and Education board. To better serve her congregations, she has completed church mediation, interim ministry, Healthy Congregations facilitator training, and Prepare-Enrich marriage counseling training. Pastor Ruth regularly acts as a consultant to pastors and congregations on issues relating to 21st century ministry including worship, youth ministry, creating an extravagant welcome, and church staffing.

Reading, walking the trails around her home, spending time with her young nieces and nephew, and baking bread bring Pastor Ruth great joy. Someday soon she hopes to add Ireland and Denmark (the homes of her paternal grandparents) to the growing list of countries she’s visited, including Italy, Greece, Singapore, and Malaysia.
