Christian Education Programs

Raising our children in a faith environment is very important to us, and the educational programs offered at St. Peter United Church of Christ help to teach our children that God is still speaking in today’s world.

Younger children participate in Sunday School each Sunday morning (a break is taken during the summer months). The entire church family looks forward to the annual Christmas Pageant that is performed by our youth.

When they reach junior high, our youth attend special classes to prepare them for the rite of confirmation. Confirmation classes are designed not only to help participants learn about our faith, but also to teach them to live it out each day so that it becomes an integral part of who they are. Each confirmand writes his or her own personal faith story, and shares it with the congregation prior to being confirmed.

Various youth programs are available, depending on the individual’s age, including Momentum (junior high) and UNITY (high school).

All youth in 9th–12th grades can either attend worship, or they can serve as a junior volunteer in the PreK-6th grade classes. Unity (high school fellowship) also gathers on Sunday evenings.

In addition to fun activities (such as movie nights, themed outings and holiday parties), youth also have the opportunity to learn and grow through annual retreats and mission trips.

Each summer, Vacation Bible School provides children with a week-long opportunity to learn and grow. While many participants attend our church, all children from the community are welcome to join us for this fun and exciting adventure.

Participation in special activities – including an annual fundraising event for Heifer International, the Thanksgiving Harvest food collection in the fall, and the church’s Clean-up Day in the spring – fosters an appreciation for the importance of service, along with a sense of community, in our children.

Social activities – including Rally Day each fall, and monthly Movie Nights during the non-summer months – help our children to develop strong relationships with each other and with the rest of their church family.
